Update on Recording Projects: The Black Monolith and The Ninth Order

Hey folks,

Hope your start to 2015 was a great one. If it wasn’t, have faith, keep pushing in your chosen direction, make adjustments if necessary, believe in yourself, and things will get better as the year progresses.

I’m excited to announce that Black Monolith’s first album will be due for completion by end of March. We’ve also just done one gig for an Arts-event which was very well received. We have another gig coming up, an acoustic one, at Lasalle College Of The Arts.

I’m currently in the midst of another recording project for a Pop/Rock outfit called the Ninth Order. The band comprises:

Sunny Deo – Lead Vocals / Principal Songwriter

Kevin Mikhail – Lead Guitars

Sean Rezel – Rhythm Guitars

Bobby Chan – Keyboards

Muhammad Sultan – Bass

Yours truly – Drums, Percussion.

These guys are another great bunch to work with. Its a very relaxed and fun atmosphere – two things you need to make great music.

This project marks the first time that I’m working with an established producer. He’s none other than Mr. Duke Purisima, who’s a 2013 Grammy Nominee for his work on Arun Shenoy’s album, Rumbadoodle. It is a great honour and privilege to work with someone of those credentials, and it gives me both security and confidence in my contributions to the album. His advice helps alot in improving the drum parts and my performances that have been recorded so far have been above even my own expectations.

Here ya go, folks…A new, hot one fresh from the Rock n Roll oven. This is personally one of my favourite tracks to record my drums on and I really like the results. It’s also a song I can connect with deeply on a lyrical level, thanks to the simple yet moving lyrics by lead singer, Zed Tan.

The Black Monolith will be rolling out it’s debut album in April this year. Be sure to watch this space for updates! It’s been a very nice experience working with these guys, and here’s to more.

Enjoy and ROCK ON!

New Studio Recording Project: The Black Monolith (Hard Rock The Old School Way..)

Hi all,

I hope your week is going well so far.

Just to update all the good folks who have stopped by to check out my website that I have a new recording project coming and songwriting sessions are underway. This project will tap on my roots as a drummer/musician – straight-ahead Hard Rock. If you like your Rock the way Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Queen, and some of the best 80’s Glam bands like Motley Crue did it, then be sure to look out for this band.

The Black Monolith, as the band is called, and I am not sure if that is the confirmed name, will comprise Damien Ng on lead guitars and he is the principal songwriter, a bassist, a lead vocalist, and yours truly on drums and throwing in my 5 cents worth to the arrangements. I have to say that I really enjoy the stuff that Damien writes – he knows his roots as a Rock musician and he can write great riffs that evoke the vibe of all the classic Rock groups both of us grew up listening to.

We plan to hit the recording studio in June and may also go out on the road to bring the spirit of old school Hard Rock to the masses the best way we know. This is certainly a perfect time for me to bring back my heavy-hitting chops after more than a year of playing with a lighter touch and restraint on volume, which is also an area of drumming skill I am proud to have improved on and I still work on it.

Stay tuned for more upates!

This student review really made my day!

There was a girl who decided to give her boyfriend a 2nd year anniversary present by purchasing a 2 hour drum lesson for him out her own pocket. Here’s her boyfriend’s review of the lesson:

“Just one lesson with Jason was enough to show how passionate he is in drumming and music as a whole.
A truly dedicated trainer, Jason spares no effort in bestowing the rudiments and fundamentals of drumming upon his student.
I highly recommend Jason as a trainer. His passion is inspiring and will kindle the love of drumming in his students.

~ Yuh harn”

Hes considering regular lessons now :-).

Hey folks!

I have uploaded a selection of studio demos and official studio recordings I have done in the past. Do feel free to have a listen by clicking on the web link appended above! I will be uploading more recordings in the future, so you can check back the page every once in a while for updates.

For more information on my services as a studio recording drummer, kindly send an email with your enquiry to jason@pulseofmusic.com, contact: +65 98291901.

If you wish to hire me for your recording session, please append the following with your email:

1) Backing track with a click track (that is metronome) on either audio channel in WAV  format. Please do not send your backing tracks in MP3s and other lo-fi quality formats as I need to hear all the musical details  properly to better prepare the drum parts for recording.

2) Lyrics Sheet for songs with lyrics. It will help me understand what the song is about so I can work our the right feel and sound for the drum track.

3) Drum Charts or Chord Charts  (please ask if you are not sure what these is).

For my rates, please see: https://jasoncruzdrums.wordpress.com/2014/05/02/contact-information-for-drumset-lessons-studio-recordings-live-gigs/

Updates….

How’s everyone doing so far??

If you’re reading this, I’d like to convey to you my utmost appreciation for taking the time to do so.

Well it’s been pretty low-key for me so far in this month of August except for the usual teaching gigs, but it’s a good time for me to prepare myself for the upcoming performances and many recording sessions to take place starting September.

As of now dates have been set in September for the tracking of drums for two projects:

1) Plate (Zhong Ren Koh, https://www.facebook.com/zhongrenkoh?fref=ts)

2) Lim Yi Liang – Jazz EP project.

Dates for the tracking of another EP project for One Hat Town (https://www.facebook.com/onehattown?fref=ts) is to be confirmed.

These are awesome opportunities to grow as a recording drummer and a dream come true in a small way! I’m very grateful to these guys for giving me a shot.

More to come! Stay tuned!
